But Kelly Clarkson is standing up to the mum shamers, and has recently spoken out in an interview recorded by Radio.com about being fine with spanking her kids.

Clarkson, 35, shared on that she has engaged in spanking.

When asked what it's like being a mother, she replied, "They are challenging". "I warn (River). I'm like, 'Hi, I'm gonna spank you on your bottom if you don't stop right now". "I think there's a fine line obviously but I believe in spanking, so you might catch me spanking my child at the zoo". "I probably won't because, I'm going to be honest with you, I have four children, so it's hard enough in my household because my husband also manages Blake", she told us.

"My mum would call the principal if I ever ended up in the principal's office and give permission for her to spank me".

The star says she has her hands full at all times with daughter River, three, and 20-month-old son Remington [pictured], plus hubby Brandon Blackstock's two children from a previous marriage.

"I'm from the south y'all so like, we get spankings".

"[It] really separates everything and it means something to me because I think that's who I represent, those people in this industry", Clarkson said. "Now she doesn't really do that kind of stuff as often".

It wasn't all fun for Kelly though, as she admitted she was craving a cup of tea for the whole evening, and had to resort to sipping on wine when she discovered the event wasn't serving the hot beverage. And they teach me. "Hitting a child doesn't teach them anything other than it's ok to hit when you're angry or frustrated".

"I'm a well-rounded individual with a lot of character", Clarkson said. Physical punishments, including spanking, are not part of the recommendation from the American Academy of Pediatrics as it apparently instills aggressive behavior in kids.
