Toyota is bringing Alexa to select vehicles this year

Toyota said vehicles with the Entune 3.0 infotainment system, and Lexus models with the Enform 2.0 system, would start to get Alexa capabilities this year.

Just which Toyota and Lexus models will have Amazon Alexa hasn't been announced, the automaker told The Car Connection in an email.

Toyota, one of the world's largest auto makers, plans to bring Amazon's Alexa to select Toyota and Lexus vehicles in the USA this year, the company announced today at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Other models will also get Alexa support beginning in 2019.

Looking ahead John Scumniotales, head of products for Alexa's automobile wing, is confident that the technology can be put to far more ambitious use: "It's still really day one for us in terms of what we can do with Alexa in the vehicle".

Once you've enabled Alexa in your Toyota or Lexus, you can ask it do to pretty much everything you might at home, including adjusting your smart thermostat, adding items to your shopping list and listening to music or audiobooks with a voice command.

Fiat Chrysler, Nissan, Hyundai, Daimler, BMW, and Ford also have existing partnerships with Amazon to bring Alexa into their customers' commuting experience.

These companies will allow Alexa into their vehicles or integrating the voice service into the connectivity systems that link customers' cars and mobile phones.

Alexa, an intelligent personal assistant developed by Amazon will be hitting Windows 10 PCs later this year.
