Operating a Boeing 787 Dreamliner with a capacity of 234 passengers, Kenya Airways will depart Nairobi at 11:25 p.m. and arrive the next day in NY at 6:25 a.m.

Economy class fliers will pay Sh89,000 both ways, CEO Sebastian Mikosz announced at the launch on Thursday, adding travellers can start making advance online bookings. This makes Kenya Airways the first airline to offer a non-stop flight between East Africa and the United States of America.

"The move will cut the flight time between the two cities by more than seven hours", he said, noting it will take 15 hours eastbound and 14 hours westbound. It will land in NY the next day at 6.30 AM.

Then the US Department of Transportation issued the permit for direct flights on September 5, 2017. The announcement cements Kenya as a top investment hub in East Africa and firmly positions JKIA as the region's aviation hub.

With over 40 American multinationals located in Nairobi and many more across Africa, daily flights will help to spur business travel and improve trade between America and Africa.

Kenya Airways will be using its vast African connecting routes to pull passengers to fly direct to the US.

The airline already serves Africa, Europe, Middle-East, Indian sub-continent and Asia.

It is anticipated that the new form of easier travel to the United States will directly impact Kenya's economy through direct and indirect employment, as well as boosting trade between the two nations.

It continues to modernize its fleet with its 32 aircrafts being some of the youngest in Africa.
