Operating a Boeing 787 Dreamliner with a capacity of 234 passengers, Kenya Airways will depart Nairobi at 11:25 p.m. and arrive the next day in NY at 6:25 a.m.
Economy class fliers will pay Sh89,000 both ways, CEO Sebastian Mikosz announced at the launch on Thursday, adding travellers can start making advance online bookings. Passengers on the flights - billed to be fastest connection between East Africa and the U.S. - will pay Sh89,000 and Sh257,634 introductory fares for an economy and Premier World tickets respectively.
"First of all [the direct flight] is going to create more jobs in Kenya Airways because we will definitely hire more pilots and more crew".
This makes Kenya Airways the first airline to offer a non-stop flight between East Africa and the United States of America.
"The move will cut the flight time between the two cities by more than seven hours", he said, noting it will take 15 hours eastbound and 14 hours westbound. It will land in NY the next day at 6.30 AM.

It is anticipated that the new form of easier travel to the United States will directly impact Kenya's economy through direct and indirect employment, as well as boosting trade between the two nations.
