New Mutants sees its release date move from April 13, 2019 to February 22, 2019.
As for The New Mutants, the horror-mutant movie will be delayed over 10 months, with the release date moved from April to February 22, 2019.
Ryan Reynolds is reprising his role as the Merc with a Mouth alongside Zazie Beetz as the luck-manipulating mutant Domino and Josh Brolin as Cable, the time-traveling son of the X-Men's Cyclops. That pits the movie against the likes of Avengers: Infinity War which comes out May 4, and Solo: A Star Wars Story which is set to release on May 25. Verbinski joined the project in October following Rupert Wyatt's departure in October 2015 and Doug Liman in August 2016. Three directors down, Gambit has been rescheduled yet again from Valentine's Day 2019, to 7th June 2019.
That being said, Miller is now prepping his Terminator reboot with James Cameron, and presumably once he's finished with that, Disney and Marvel Studios will have made their decision as to how they plan to handle the X-Men moving forward.
A lot of the upcoming "X-Men" inspired movies are seeing a major shakeup in the wake of the Disney purchase of some 21st Century Fox properties.
Of course, none of these new developments are necessarily a bad thing. Star Channing Tatum is still very much committed, and the studio wants to release the movie, but with Fox now needing to search for a new director which will likely involve even more pre-production changes, it only adds turmoil to what is already a seemingly plagued production. There are a lot of theories going around about why the move was made, including the idea that it was moved into 2019 so it would have more room to breath. The good news is that it sounds like this will still be the case as and the movie will definitely be the full-blown horror that they want it to be, fans will just have to wait a while longer for it.
But hey! At least we're getting Deadpool 2 a couple of weeks sooner.
