Woman Techie Dies After Being Set on Fire by Stalker in Chennai

Her mother and sister sustained burn injuries when they tried to save her.

The neighbors who rushed to rescue the trio took them to the Kilpauk Medical College (KMC) hospital in Chennai. She used to work in an IT company, according to reports.

Police said they detained the suspect, 23-year-old Akash, who was pursuing Induja against her wishes for almost a month. As per the witnesses present at the spot, the hospital ambulance took nearly 40 minutes to reach the residence after receiving a call from a neighbour.

The man had claimed his love for his former classmate from an engineering school, India Todaysaid in a report.

Indhuja succumbed to the injuries while her mother and sister were admitted to hospital in critical condition after they suffered fatal burns.

However, when he proposed his love for her, she rejected it.

The incident occurred in Adambakkam area in Chennai on Monday night. When her parents started to look for groom for the victim, Akash got angry. When a reluctant Indhuja opened the door, the jilted lover is said to have thrown petrol on her, dousing her mother and sister in the process. Both of them are undergoing treatment in KMC Hospital. Although, nothing is cleared yet why he burnt her alive along with sister and mother.

On hearing screams, neighbours rushed to the house and took all the three women to the Chromepet Government Hospital.

While a few reports said that the neighbours were the ones who nabbed Akash, an India Today report said that the accused had escaped the scene and was arrested on Tuesday morning.
