Benzema: Ronaldo is more selfish than me

Benzema: Sex tape affair could be reason for France exile

Karim Benzema not expecting France recall

Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema says team-mate and star forward Cristiano Ronaldo is more selfish than him but he enjoys playing with the Portuguese global.

Karim Benzema believes his exile from the France squad is down to his alleged role in blackmailing Mathieu Valbuena over a sex tape and does not expect to return while Didier Deschamps is in charge.

Initially sidelined due to his name being caught up in an ongoing French police investigation into alleged extortion of his worldwide teammate Mathieu Valbuena, Benzema has remained absent despite Deschamps since insisting the forward was still in his thoughts.

The France global was in high demand after impressing at Lyon and ended up joining Real Madrid in a £35.2 million deal.

As Deschamps' exile of the forward continues it has become abundantly clear that Real's main central striker will not be playing at the World Cup in Russian Federation.

"It's a vague story. Personally, what goes beyond sport you have to put to one side, you need the best to win trophies", Benzema said. You mustn't be silly, though. It's not a question of calling him or not.

"(I told him) I am a footballer, you are my coach and I respect you but you have to respect me also as a footballer. I respect him and I have always respected him. Even if he's someone I respect, after a while, I started to lose it.

Karim Benzema, who moved to Real Madrid in the summer of 2009, shifted focus to his Madrid tenure saying that he did not imagine that he would stay at the club for so long.

Benzema also spoke of his playing relationship with Cristiano Ronaldo, while insisting that the Portuguese attacker's "selfishness" is not an issue.

"Everybody has gotten involved and we have forgotten football".

Benzema, meanwhile, has found the net 123 times in 251 La Liga outings since moving to Spain and is closing in on the 200-goal mark in all competitions for Zinedine Zidane's side. I like playing with him.

"He is able to play one-touch football".

"(Ronaldo) is more selfish than me, but that's normal", the French global was quoted saying by Spanish website Marca. He has such ambitions that he does everything to achieve them.

"We forgot the athlete and what I can bring in. It's good for Madrid". "That is not a political answer", he said. I hope that he will bounce back. It's been more than two and a half years, it doesn't take much to understand what is going on.
