The Congress said the PM's move to set up his economic advisory council after three and a half years of coming to power was a step too little and too late as the economy was already in a downward spiral.

Talking to media after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg in New Delhi, Panneerselvam said that no political issues were discussed during the meeting.
Modi was speaking in New Delhi at the birth centenary celebrations of Nanaji Deshmukh.
Today is also the birth anniversary of Jai Prakash Narayan. Jayaprakash Narayan later recalled the incident saying, "if Nanaji Deshmukh had not physically intervened, receiving" the blow "aimed at me, I would have been a dead man". His call for a "total revolution" to rid the nation from hunger, rising prices, corruption and poverty triggered massive movement across India.
"The likes of Loknayak JP and (Ram Manohar) Lohia were active during the "Quit India" movement inspired by the clarion call of Mahatma Gandhi".
He said that mere thought of doing can not bring change, it comes by following a strict timeline; the budget allocation should be evaluated by how much has been achieved rather than how much have been invested. "Efforts have to be comprehensive and "outcome driven" not "output driven", he said. He visited an exhibition on the theme "technology and rural life". PM also interacted with rural innovators there. It showcases the changing face of rural India where programmes like Digital Gramin Bharat, Start Up India, Skill India have played a transformational role. He will then inaugurate a Plant Phenomics Facility of IARI.
PM launched the DISHA portal that aims at coordination and monitoring of development works at the district level.
He will also launch the Gram Samvad App which will carry information on the progress of rural development works at the Gram Panchayat level. He was also the founder of Deendayal Research Institute at Chitrakoot.
