India's factory output grows sharply at 4.3% in August

Food and beverages during the month under consideration recorded a rise of 1.76 per cent over the same month past year.

India's industrial production growth hit a nine-month high of 4.3% in August, according to data published by the Central Statistical Organisation (CSO) on October 12.

The government today revised July's factory output growth to 0.9 percent in July, as compared with an earlier estimate of 1.2 percent.

India's consumer price inflation numbers remained steady in September while industrial production rose favourably.

As per use-based classification, the growth rates in August 2017 over August 2016 are 7.1 per cent in primary goods, 5.4 per cent in capital goods, (-) 0.2 percent in intermediate goods and 2.5 percent in infrastructure/construction goods.

The index of industrial production (IIP) growth was 4 percent in August 2016. The electricity sector also rose with its output at 8.3% as compared to 6.5% in July.

Analysts polled by Reuters had expected retail inflation to edge up to 3.60% last month from 3.36% in August. However, on a year-on-year (YoY) basis, the country's September retail inflation was lower than the 4.39 per cent CPI rate reported for the corresponding month of last year. The September CPI food inflation is at 1.25 per cent, against 1.52 per cent in August, while the CPI fuel, light inflation stands at 5.56 per cent, against 4.94 per cent in August.
