Bharti Airtel launches 4G smartphone at Rs 1399, partners with Karbonn

Airtel counters JioPhone with smartphone at Rs 1399 net price

Airtel partners with Karbonn to roll out 4G enabled feature phone; here's how much it costs

The Karbonn A40 Indian runs Android 7.0 Nougat which means you have access to all the apps that are available on the Google Play Store including YouTube, Facebook, and most importantly, WhatsApp.

This plan comes against the backdrop of Reliance Industries Ltd's telecoms arm Jio unveiling a low-priced 4G-enabled phone in July for a one-time refundable deposit of 1,500 rupees.

Under this partnership, Karbonn A40 Indian smartphone will be available at an effective price of Rs 1,399 as opposed to Rs 3,499. But, you have to do recharges worth ₹3000 within the first 18 months to get cashback of ₹500, and then recharges worth ₹3000 again within the next 18 months to get the remaining ₹1000. The customer will get a cash refund of Rs 500 after 18 months and another Rs 1,000 after 36 months, taking the total cash benefit to Rs 1,500. However, to claim the cash refund benefit, recharges worth Rs 3000 must be done within the first 18 months (to claim the first refund instalment of Rs 500) and another Rs 3000 over the next 18 months (to claim the second refund instalment of Rs 1000). Besides, it also comes with Dual SIM slots inside which you can put SIM card of any network operator you wish to, unlike JioPhone which is locked to Jio's network.

This is a comparison between Airtel smartphone and Reliance Jio Phone based on pricing and offers. This takes the total to Rs 1,500 and takes the device's effective price down from Rs 2,899 to Rs 1,399.

In a bid to compete with Reliance Jio's, rival Bharti Airtel on Wednesday announced the launch of a new smartphone in partnership with Karbonn Mobiles. Further, unlike Reliance JioPhone, "the ownership of the smartphone is completely with the customer and there is no need to return the device to Airtel/Karbonn at any point to claim the cash benefit". The alliance between Airtel and Karbonn is part of Airtel?s Mera Pehla 4G Smartphone initiative, and more handset makers will be added to the program in due course. However, the cashback will be deposited in your Airtel Payments Bank account.

The Karbonn features a 4.0-inch WVGA IPS LCD display, paired with 2.5D curved tempered glass. Also, Airtel India is going to give Unlimited Calling and 0.5GB data/day with a Rs. 169 recharge that has a 28 days validity.

Offer Details: To avail this Airtel 4G phone offer the customer needs to pay Airtel Rs 2899. The device extracts power from a 1,400mAh battery.

Consumer Business & CMO, Bharti Airtel said, "As the market leader and pioneer of 4G services in India, Airtel's aspiration is to digitally empower every Indian with high-speed data access". It packs 1GB RAM, 8GB onboard storage and up to 32GB expansion option. We are delighted to partner with Karbonn to remove barriers to smartphone adoption and enable millions of Indians to leapfrog to a full touchscreen smartphone experience.
