So today the Chinese company's Head of Product, Oliver Z., has chose to answer a few questions on the matter.
The company's head of product Oliver Z says security patch updates are coming "for the foreseeable future" but there'll be no Android P release for the 2016 handsets. Security updates typically can be sent out for three years after the phone's release.
When OnePlus officially announced that OnePlus 2 and OnePlus X were not getting the Nougat update, the fans were left disappointed. For the OnePlus 3T, which launched in November of last year, that means it is only getting about a year of updates. Oliver confirmed that OnePlus will use the program exclusively for the OnePlus 5.
While Android O will be the last major OS update for the OP3/3T, Oliver does promise that the devices will continue to receive updates for the "foreseeable future". The first question starts off by asking why the OnePlus 5 has received more updates since it was released than the OP3/3T has had during that same time frame. It's worth noting that OnePlus has been pushing continuous updates through the beta program to test the new features before pushing a public release.
As it pertains to the latest security and OxygenOS updates, the August patch will come out before the OxygenOS 4.5 update.
As Wccftech points out, the OP3 is only 14 months old and the 3T a mere nine months old and it's surprising that support for the devices will end so soon.
So, how much better do you feel now?
