The Temple Police Department charged Jason Stuart Bernal, 44, of Killeen with criminal negligent homicide, a state jail felony, Shawana Neely, TPD spokeswoman, said Sunday.

The family of a girl killed when a houseboat ran over her and whose father lost his legs after he tried to save her has set up a Gofundme page to help pay for medical bills and funeral expenses.

Katlyn Oliver was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace David Barfield and the young girl will have an autopsy performed on her to determine her cause of death.

The man suffered injuries that resulted in the loss of his legs.

According to KENS 5 CBS in San Antonio, a father and his 4-year-old daughter were swimming at Temple Lake Park when a house boat backed up over them.

Police said a recreational house boat ran over the four-year-old girl and she was entangled in the propeller.

The police were called out to Temple Lake Park at 6:47 p.m.

Both the father and the daughter were taken to Baylor Scott & White, and are in critical condition.

Temple Police Department Special Investigation's Squad is now investigating what caused the accident.
