Crowd catches teen falling from ride at Six Flags in New York

Woman falls from Six Flags Great Escape ride

Officials: 6 Flags Visitor Falls from Ride

According to the Warren County Sheriff's Office, a 14-year-old girl was riding the "Sky Ride" Friday night, when she fell about 25 feet to the ground.

Ms Winchell, who is applying to be a nurse, said she and her father had visited the girl on Sunday at the hospital and she was in good spirits. A man who was on the ride at the time watched it all unfold.

Eventually, after working up the courage, the girl let go of the ride and miraculously landed in the arms of the people below. That teenager is now safe; she was taken to Albany Medical Center in stable condition with no major injuries. He estimated the girl had been dangling for at least 90 seconds and possibly even a few minutes.

"It was horrifying. I mean, you know, you could tell this person is helpless", Lent told the station.

Six Flags has not yet offered a comment regarding this frightening incident.

The terrifying moment a 14-year-old fell from a ride in NY has been captured on video. Moments later the girl fell, hitting a tree limb on the way down, but her fall was broken primarily by Howard and Winchell.

Park spokeswoman Jessica Hansen says there appeared to be no malfunction on the ride, but that Six Flags has closed the attraction for further review.

Matthew Howard Sr was just leaving the Six Flags Amusement Park on Saturday evening when he heard someone screaming. As the safety of our guests and team members is our top priority, and out of an abundance of caution, the ride will remain closed while we conduct a thorough internal review.

The slow-moving ride had been halted after reports of someone in distress.

The incident, captured on video, shows the unnamed teen dangling from the stopped ride above a crowd of spectators, park authorities and police. High-speed twists and turns aren't a part of this ride's attraction.
