But the Sixers undoubtedly view their successful trade with the Celtics in which the Sixers have nabbed the No. 1 overall pick from Boston, as their biggest one yet.

For the Celtics, this is not the first time Butler has been mentioned in potential National Basketball Association trade talks. The Celtics will then receive either the 76ers' 2019 first-round pick or the Sacramento Kings' 2019 pick, whichever is more favorable to Boston. That first round pick will be either the 2019 Kings selection or the 2019 Sixers selection, whichever one is the higher pick, with one very important protection.

The future first round pick will be the Los Angeles Lakers' 2018 pick if it's within the No. 2 to No. 5 range of the 2018 draft.

In exchange, the team sends the third overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft and a future first-round pick to Boston.

If the Lakers do win the 2018 NBA Draft Lottery, the 76ers get that pick, and their obligation to the Celtics shifts back a year.

The 76ers can not lose out on a No. 1 overall pick in this trade, the way the Brooklyn Nets did this year. The Celtics reportedly are intrigued both by Duke's Jayson Tatum and Kansas' Josh Jackson, two 6-foot-8 forwards who are projected to last past Philly now at No. 1 (Fultz) and the Lonzo Ball-obsessed Lakers at No. 2. There would be one exception to that: if either pick is No. 1 overall, the Celtics will get the other one. The Celtics could pull the trigger on some of these first round picks to bring Butler, one of the best two way players in the National Basketball Association, to Boston with a starting lineup that already features Isaiah Thomas, Avery Bradley, and Al Horford.

"We haven't taken a step outside the draft", Colangelo said.

"History suggests that No. 1 has the greatest odds of producing franchise-level talent, and we are confident that this year's draft class has that very potential", Colangelo said.

I'm just not almost convinced the No. 3 pick will match Fultz's production. The 76ers will likely also have to give a few other future picks and some role players to make the move. Fultz, who is a point guard out of the University of Washington, is considered by many to be the most talented player in the draft.

"It was the best offer we had pretty significantly, by a significant margin", Ainge said of the trade. Fultz would join a Philadelphia roster that includes Simmons, Jahlil Okafor and 2017 Rookie of the Year finalists Joel Embiid and Dario Saric.

There are two names amplified right now - Paul George (Indiana Pacers) and Jimmy Butler (Chicago Bulls).

Fultz averaged 23.2 points, 5.7 rebounds and 5.9 assists in 25 games during his lone college season at Washington, excelling on a team that finished 9-22.
